We’ve written this up as we get a lot of requests from people to play gigs but we only have so much time and space. Please have a read below before you contact us.
If you are in Manchester we would encourage you 100% to organise your own gig. Talk to us, we are happy to help and advise if this sounds daunting.
Please bare in mind that the gig you are asking about is a door gig. People do come; so we are usually splitting £50-£200 between all the musicians. This gig is supported by the Peer Hat giving us the space and engineer for free.
We try to reply to all emails even to say “sorry no” but life/teaching/touring/family/gardening means that doesn’t always happen. If we don’t reply it means we can’t help sorry, please don’t send us three email follow ups.
We’re more likely to reply to direct requests from musicians, particularly if there is an interest to collaborate with Manchester improvisers (international heads: don’t ask us for a solo show if you are playing with local improvisers in London). We see the work of organising gigs of free improvised music as part of an indirect exchange/living network that makes the music possible for us all to play.
If you are an agent booking artists in a non-reciprocal way we are less likely to reply, likewise if you come to us looking for a gig to support a national/international funding bid please think careful if you are expecting us to work for free.
